This hue is inspired by the distinctive orange coat of the tiger, produced by pheomelanin, the same pigment responsible for red and auburn tones in human hair. Paired with bold black stripes formed by eumelanin, their orange coat appears green to prey animals like deer and boar, whose dichromatic vision can’t distinguish red from green. What looks bold to us is invisible to them. The tiger’s pattern is a masterclass in camouflage, biology evolved for stealth.
