Puzzle #81

Print Magenta

August 31, 2025

This hue is inspired by the vivid, fuchsia-like color of print magenta—more precisely known as process magenta—one of the four inks in the CMYK model used for full-color printing. Unlike digital magenta, which is created with light in the RGB color model, process magenta is produced with ink, absorbing green wavelengths so that red and blue remain visible to the eye. Alongside cyan, yellow, and black (the “key” color), it forms the subtractive palette that allows a wide range of colors to be reproduced on paper. Though it shares a name with its digital counterpart, process magenta belongs to the tactile world of ink and presswork.
