Puzzle #114

Pomegranate Seed

October 3, 2025

This hue is inspired by the deep ruby red of a pomegranate seed, or aril, the jewel-like sac that holds the fruit’s juice. The color comes from anthocyanin pigments, the same compounds that give berries their vivid hues, concentrated here into a shade that glows almost translucently when held to the light. Revered since ancient times, pomegranates have symbolized fertility, abundance, and renewal across cultures from Persia to the Mediterranean. The seeds’ glistening, gemlike red makes them as much a feast for the eyes as for the palate.
