Puzzle #143

Orange Marigold

November 1, 2025

This hue is inspired by the vivid orange of the marigold, or cempasúchil, the flower most closely associated with Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in Mexico. Its fiery color comes from carotenoid pigments concentrated in the petals, creating a rich orange-gold glow that seems to hold sunlight itself. In tradition, marigolds are believed to guide the spirits of the departed back to the world of the living—their color symbolizing the sun and the continuity of life. Paths of petals, or ofrendas, are laid to welcome loved ones home, making this radiant hue both a celebration of remembrance and a symbol of eternal connection.
